Birds of Many Climes was designed in the 1900s by architect and furniture and textile designer C.F.A. Voysey. Voysey was influenced by the work of William Morris, the Arts and Crafts Movement and Art Nouveau, and was concerned with form and function rather than ornamental complexities. Voysey was particularly fond of birds and one of his greatest talents was to reduce their complex forms into blocks of colour, while retaining their main characteristics.
