Check the hanging medium of your Kitras bell regularly, as natural materials like rope and twine can weather over time. For longer lifespan, hang the bell in a sheltered spot; if exposed to rain or snow, the rope will eventually need replacing. You can find replacements at most hardware or craft stores.
Introduce your bell to the outdoors in spring or early summer to avoid stress fractures from temperature changes. Once acclimated, it can stay outside year-round.
To clean, gently wipe the glass with a damp cloth to restore its shine when it loses brilliance.
Kitras Art Glass is a Canadian company founded in 1988, driven by the belief that unique, sentiment-filled glass art pieces enrich homes, relationships, and communities. As makers and storytellers, they celebrate the wonder of everyday moments and the magic of handmade craftsmanship—where quality, beauty, and unexpected surprises come together.
Now Canada's largest hot glass studio, Kitras creates handcrafted gifts and décor that celebrate life’s beautiful moments. With a talented team in Fergus, Ontario, each piece is designed, crafted, and shipped from their studio to shops, museums, and garden centers across North America.
Kitras continually strives to improve its process, creating art for today while looking toward the future. Their inspiration comes from both the ordinary and the exciting. Through their craft, they’ve built a community of customers who welcome their stories into their homes and lives.
At Kitras Art Glass, the process begins when experienced glassblowers gather molten glass from their 2,000 to 2,200°C (3,632 to 3,992°F) furnace. This honey-like substance serves as the foundation for every piece they create.
Kitras Art Glass is passionate about color, using only the highest quality colored glass. To apply color, the molten glass is rolled through frit (colored glass) patterns, fusing the color into the clear glass. This process creates a vibrant, lasting piece that will never fade.
Skilled glassblowers then shape the glass using various techniques. While each piece follows a specific color recipe, the individual craftsmanship and the fluidity of hot glass make every item unique.
After completion, the piece is carefully cooled at a controlled rate in lehr and annealer boxes. The quality control team inspects each product to ensure it meets the highest standards before it reaches customers. Every piece is crafted to be enjoyed and cherished.
